Fair Care Labs takes an experimental and innovative approach to finding solutions for challenges faced by domestic workers.
We believe there is not one single solution to lifting standards for domestic workers. We need to be creative and employ multiple strategies simultaneously, to create real and meaningful change. We build products where they are needed, form partnerships when we can, and work to shift culture where it’s creating a barrier.
Our work covers three areas: Products and Tools, Private Sector Strategy, and Policy and Future of Work.
Digital Products for Workers
We believe in the promise of technology.
Many problems faced by domestic workers have elements that can be solved with technology, such as connecting workers, aggregating payments and creating formal documentation for a largely informal industry. Our in-house entrepreneurs develop and build tech-based solutions where none exist.
Alia makes it easy to provide benefits to house cleaners so they can take a paid sick day or access insurance protection. A clean home deserves fair pay.
Contracts for Nannies is a tool to help you easily create a contract for your nanny. When there is transparency and clear expectations, everything works better.
Private Sector Collaboration
Social movements and the private sector need to work together.
Some companies want to do the right thing, but don't know how. Some companies recognize they can make a stronger social impact in partnership with a social movement. As domestic work is shifting online, we are working with private sector companies that agree that good work is good for business.

Cleaners deserve a living wage. Fair Care Labs’ team worked with Airbnb on their Living Wage Pledge, to represent cleaners’ needs for a living wage.
Policy and Shaping the Future of Work
Work is changing.
Technology is changing the way we work, artificial intelligence is automating many jobs, workers want work that is flexible and stable, and the traditional structure of 9-5 employment seems to be falling by the wayside. We need to shape the future of work to ensure we are building an economy that works for all of us.

All work should be good, but what does good work really look like? Fair Care Labs developed the Good Work Code, an overarching framework of 8 simple values that are the foundation of good work.
Updating legislation to reflect the way we work today should never be at the cost of workers' rights and protections. We have been tracking the Marketplace Contractor legislation which is bad for workers, particularly domestic workers who increasingly find work online. All work should be good, but what does good work really look like?
